LUCID – Letters – September 24th
September 24
Dear Samantha,
I started reading this book on lucid dreaming, and it really has me thinking. I’ve been reading so much more since I moved away, since I have no one to talk to here, and I’m finding that I really enjoy it. Especially when the subject is interesting. In school we always have to read and do book reports, and when it’s forced on me like that I just can’t seem to enjoy it. It’s rushed, and I have to pay attention to certain things and write about it. This way, I can read at my own pace and enjoy it. I have nothing better to do anyway. The weather here is always cold and wet. I hate it.
Have you heard of lucid dreaming before? It’s basically taking control of your dreams by being consciously aware of them. Supposedly the whole experience is amazing, because you can solve problems in your psyche by consciously confronting them instead of letting your subconscious sort them out on its own. This book says that one way to actually have a lucid dream, that works for most people, is to just decide that you want to do it when you go to sleep. I’m going to try that tonight.
It says that you just need to be aware that when something odd happens that you’re dreaming, and then as long as you don’t wake up you’ll be able to control it. That’s a big problem, it says, that people tend to wake up as soon as they realize they’re dreaming.
I don’t remember having any nightmares last night. It was the first time in a while, and it was nice to actually get some sleep. I was feeling scared just to go to bed. I think this book will help though. If I can confront these monsters, maybe I can make them go away.
Your friend and newly initiated bookworm,
Lucy
